Mukul Verma is the ATIMP Trials Manager at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH), where he leads the operational management and delivery of both commercial and non-commercial Advanced Therapy Investigational Medicinal Product (ATIMP) clinical trials.
A Newcastle University alumnus, Mukul’s research journey began with a strong interest in drug discovery, experimental medicine, and translational research. He completed the Translational Research and Therapeutics Programme at Newcastle University, which further developed his interest in regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, and advanced therapies. This led him to pursue doctoral research focused on the immunoregulatory potential of dental pulp stem cells and their applications in tissue repair and regenerative medicine.
At NUTH, Mukul oversees the Trust’s Operational Group for Advanced Therapies, providing strategic and operational support to multidisciplinary research delivery teams involved in advanced therapy clinical trials. He facilitates early sponsor engagement and collaboration between investigators, academic institutions, and industry partners to accelerate the development and delivery of innovative ATMP studies. Through these activities, he supports the translation of cutting-edge therapies from laboratory research into clinical practice, improving patient access to novel treatments.
As a member of the Trust’s ATIMP Oversight Committee, he supports the local governance and oversight of advanced therapy studies. Working through the Advanced Therapies Operational Group, he supports local governance approvals by ATIMP Oversight committee , coordinates multidisciplinary stakeholder engagement, and helps ensure that ATIMP and ATMP trials are delivered in accordance with regulatory, quality, safety, and operational requirements.
Beyond his responsibilities within the Trust, Mukul contributes nationally through the Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (ATTC) Network, where he serves on both the Training and Education Board and the Clinical Trials Acceleration Board. Through these roles, he supports workforce development, knowledge sharing, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the UK infrastructure for advanced therapy clinical trials.
Mukul is also a qualified dental specialist, holding a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Endodontics, with extensive clinical and academic experience. He completed his PhD at Newcastle University, investigating the immunoregulatory properties of dental pulp stem cells in inflammatory environments. In recognition of his research achievements, he was awarded the British Endodontic Society (BES) Poster Prize 2026 for his work entitled “Immunoregulatory Potential of Dental Pulp Stem Cells in Response to Inflammatory Stimuli.”
His unique combination of expertise in advanced therapy clinical trial management, governance, translational research, stem cell science, experimental medicine, and clinical dentistry enables him to bridge scientific innovation, operational delivery, and patient-centred clinical research within the rapidly evolving field of advanced therapies
