Professor Mark Walker is the former Director of the NIHR Newcastle CRF, and now oversees the governance processes that underpin and enable the safe delivery of first in human clinical research in the CRF. His own research explores the genetic basis of diabetes and its application to precision medicine. From a clinical perspective, he leads the Newcastle Monogenic Diabetes service that provides care and support for patients across the UK. He is a keen advocate of the NIHR, and was an NIHR Senior Investigator from 2011 to 2015.
